Day 49-Part 2-Mommy's Letter to Griffin

To my Griffin,

I so wish I could be there to take you out of that orphanage for good.  Words can not express what an honor and privilege it is for me to be your mother.  You are mine.  You have a family who is PROUD of you.  We will fight for you.  We will give you the life that you deserve.

Do you realize what God has done in order to make sure that we took notice of you?  It is simply amazing to look back and see how perfectly God brought you into our lives!

In 2008, I developed a desire to adopt a child with Down syndrome, out of the blue, really.  That is the year you were born.

We are stationed at a base in Germany and attended church with a family who adopted a child from your country with Down syndrome, through RR.  Their journey ignited our journey.

I fell IN LOVE with your picture on RR.  You have the most sweetest face and little hands.  You were wearing my favorite colors in the picture... blue and green... and you were also sitting in a blue and green swing.  You really stood out to me!

Your RR name was "Finn".  Chris and I had decided that if we were to ever have a son, before we even knew about you, we would name him Griffin.  You are our Griffin.

I prayed so hard that you were born on the 19th...because your sisters were both born on the 19th and I wanted you to share that date with them...and sure enough, God birthed you on the 19th.  (That was a little God nod to me, for sure!)

Your birth mother didn't sign a paper waiving her rights to you.  We were in country much longer than we normally would have been.  But we realized, through a friend during the 10 day wait, that the paper that held us up for so long, was what saved you from someone who has been putting children in orphanages for the rest of their lives, making them unadoptable.  We almost lost you back in December.  The paper that we thought was a huge inconvenience, saved your life.  Your biological mother, by neglecting to sign that paper, gave you life.  Praise God.

There has been an outpouring of love and support for you, all over the world!  People stepped up and provided, prayed, and encouraged.  We could not have done it without their support.  They did it for you, Griffin!  They wanted you to have a home.  We were able to pay the ransom, because of them, because of God.

God loved you before you were even born and He created you perfectly.  I'm so sorry that I could not get to you faster, that you had to stay in an orphanage for over 3 years, but we are here now and those days are gone forever.

Sweetie, there is so much more.  When we committed to you, God had a sign for us around every corner.  We knew that we were on the right track.  People may not understand, but those who love you, do.  We love you, Griffin!  Thank you for being YOU.  Your sweet, perfect little you.

Your sisters and I can't wait to see you at the airport!

Love,
Mommy
